What I’ve Learned So Far:

Claiming the Ways We See, Understand, and Interpret the World

Friday, April 4, 2025 - 7:00 p.m. to

Sunday, April 6, 2025 - 10:30 a.m.

 St. Scholastica Monastery

If there is any secret to a life well lived, it is attentiveness.  Spiritual masters remind us that making time to consider what we are learning sharpens our attention. When we do so, we also deepen our reverence for who we have been, who we are becoming, and how we are being called to live out our destiny.

This retreat, then, is designed for adults of all ages and at life stages who desire to more fully integrate the experiences of their lives with the inner meaning they hold.  It comes in the midst of Lent, a time for taking stock and preparing for what lies ahead.

Through an array of activities, participants will be invited to pay attention to the full landscape of their lives, to notice how certain experiences have indelibly shaped their values, ideals, key questions, and insights to date. They will be encouraged to name the lessons they are learning through personal writing and the structured accompaniment of a small group.

Our aim as facilitators is to offer plenty of personal quiet time balanced by discussion of selected readings and small group contemplative conversations. We will also be available for one-to-one conversations with those participants who want to explore what is emerging for them.

Facilitator: Diane M. Millis, Ph.D., loves to accompany people as they mine the meaning of their lives. She has taught at the University of Minnesota, the College of Saint Benedict/Saint John’s University, Saint Catherine University, and United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities. Diane is the author of three books: Conversation—the Sacred Art, Deepening Engagement, and Re-Creating a Life. She currently serves as a spiritual director and facilitates retreats in a wide array of sectors—educational, congregational, non-profit, philanthropic, health care, and corporate. Diane shares her life with her husband Mark. They live in Minneapolis. To learn more about her ministry, visit www.dianemillis.com.

Facilitator: Victor Klimoski, Ph.D. is a skilled teacher of adults and a companion in their learning. He has worked extensively as an independent consultant and as a trainer in the Blandin Foundation leadership program to help people have the conversations they most need to have. In the past ten years, his focus has shifted to inviting people to workshops and retreats designed around the power of the written word – their own words and the words of insightful authors. Victor is a poet with eight volumes of his own work and has co-edited four anthologies of poems and essays. His latest project, with poet Ann Glumac, is titled Making Peace and will be released in fall of 2025.
