The Mystics Would Like a Word

with author Shannon K. Evans

Tuesday, April 21, 2026

7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. CT via Zoom

Is there a Christian spirituality that embraces the entire reality of womanhood? The answer, Shannon K. Evans suggests, is an emphatic YES. There is a spirituality that meets us in every part of our lives, developed by the women who came before us. In Evans’ recent book, The Mystics Would Like a Word: Six Women Who Met God and Found a Spirituality for Today, we encounter six women saints of the church—self-determining, stubborn, and unapologetically themselves—who asked questions in their time that are startlingly relevant today, and who fought for women’s experiences to be heard, understood, respected, and recognized as holy. Join us as we look at the Christian story of faith and spirituality that emerges through their lives.

Shannon K. Evans is the author of The Mystics Would Like a Word, Feminist Prayers for My Daughter, and Rewilding Motherhood. By day, she serves as the spirituality and culture editor at the National Catholic Reporter. She and her family make their home in Ames, Iowa.
