Women's Christmas:
An Irish Tradition for Today
Saturday, January 4, 2025
9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
St Scholastica Monastery
There are twelve days of the Christmas season…
…Times of planning and preparing, gathering and feasting.
…Times of joy-filled busyness.
Now it is time for a peace-giving retreat.
Come together to ‘rest awhile’ and celebrate an old Irish tradition that is gaining popularity: Women’s Christmas.
- It is a time to leave home and hearth and holiday responsibilities and spend time together as women in reflection, feasting on shared stories and food someone else prepared, and creating a collage.
- It is time to consider the teachings of other women of Christmas: a maiden (Mary), a mother-to-be and aged aunt (Elizabeth) and a crone (Anna, the prophetess).
Facilitator: Rev. Marina Lachecki grew up in Duluth and is a 1974 graduate of the College of St. Scholastica. She is a published author in the field of creation spirituality. She served as Campus Minister for Northland College and then as pastor of St. John’s UCC on Madeline Island. She is a grandmother, storyteller, environmentalist, singer and author.
Suggested Offering: $40 (includes lunch)
