“Create in me a clean heart, O God”:
A Lenten Retreat with the Penitential Psalms
Saturday, April 6
9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
St. Scholastica Monastery
The seven Penitential Psalms [Psalms 6, 32, 38, 51 (quote used in title), 102, 130, and 143] have offered a curriculum of Lenten spiritual preparation for centuries. It is said that Augustine covered his walls with these psalms, and found them especially powerful as he approached his death. You are invited to a transforming experience featuring the Penitential Psalms in this Lenten Retreat. We will attempt to discover the deep meaning of each of the psalms through lectio divina. We will consider how these psalms speak to the larger context of the Old and New Testaments. Most importantly, we will use these psalms as a means of transformation of our personal lives, our communities, and our world.
