"Monasticism is the single-hearted search for what matters, in life.

Any life. Every life. "

Sr. Joan Chittister, OSB

Where do we go now as individuals to find our way out of the shadows and toward a new light? What internal resources do we have to rely on? How do we go on when going on is all we can do? How do we nourish ourselves?

Sister Joan Chittister guides us through these and many other important questions she poses in her new book, The Monastic Heart: 50 Simple Practices for a Contemplative and Fulfilling Life.  She shares her simple but amazing insights into how to create in ourselves a personal sanctuary that is conscious, rich, and transcendent, one that becomes our own Monastery of the Heart. As she says, "The deeper part of everyone does not simply develop in us like wild grass.  That place needs to be cultivated, to be cherished, to be sustained."

Let's do this together for ourselves and for one another as we learn, discuss, and share our thoughts and experiences led by Sister Joan's writing and practices. You may come to individual sessions or all eight sessions, where we will consider her vision and suggestions one chapter at a time. We hope you will choose all eight sessions as we build a community of support, and as we each create a space for our own Monastery of the Heart. All are welcome!
